Interference Paintings
"Traversing representation and abstraction, Lindsay McCulloch’s paintings express the disorienting nature of personal and technological change, in which the familiar quickly becomes strange. Fragments of vaguely recognizable figures and scenes emerge and disappear amid layers of geometric bands and interference patterns. Like static or pixelated images on a screen, the effect visualizes both the contemporary condition and McCulloch’s personal experience with illness and motherhood. Forms and colors flicker and morph, suggesting the movement of time and the ways in which it warps and degrades memory."
